O-M-G! IT’S BACK! 2Northdown’s New Act Competition is kicking off for the FOURTH time in September 2022 and you can apply now! After the success of last year’s competition with the victory of the amazing and super talented Dee Allum, we can’t wait to see what this year brings! Last year we had over 300 applications so apply quickly! The competition is open to all types of comedy acts, with sketch, character and alternative acts being encouraged to apply.
Contestants will compete in a heat, with the winners of the round progressing through to a semi-final round and then onto the final! There will also be a wild card round for audience favourites we think deserve another shot!
Acts are scored on their writing; performance; star quality; originality and innovation. The comedians ranked highest by both the audience and our hand-picked panel of industry judges will progress to the next stage.

Criteria for Application:
The competition is open to any person aged 18 and over.
You can’t have been performing regularly on the circuit for more than five years.
To enter, you must have at least 10 minutes of original material. (Spots in the heats are 5 minutes, spots in the finals will be up to 7 minutes).
You must not have ‘debuted’ in Edinburgh performing an hour long show (comedians who have taken a show to Edinburgh that is less than an hour are still able to enter).
You must not have used this material on radio or television.
You must demonstrate an appreciation of comedy and a serious commitment to developing as a comedian.
You can’t have been a finalist or semi-finalist of a previous 2Northdown New Act Competition.
2ND can reserve the right to refuse an entrant at our discretion.
You must be available for the semi final and final dates to enter the competition.
